Whole Male Spider Crab (Cornish King Crab)
Spider crabs are large, spiky crustaceans that are common around Cornwall’s coast. They grow up to 80cm in claw span. The claws are full of delicious moist, white meat that is a prized delicacy in Spain and France, yet not as popular in the UK despite being delicious.
To increase the popularity, they have been rebranded as Cornish King Crab by The Cornish Fish Producers Organisation (CFPO), which has suggested the name change after undertaking research with both chefs and consumers.
Male spider crabs are very much like the male brown crab in that they have longer legs and bigger claws than the female spider crab. We don’t offer female spider crabs as the meat yield is very poor. We don’t buy or process them as we don’t want to disappoint customers.
Cook live spider crabs immediately on delivery and eat within three days. Only strong spider crabs will be dispatched live. However, we cannot guarantee survival and they are sent at the customer’s own risk. Any spider crabs that don’t arrive live are still safe to cook and consume. When ordering cooked spider crabs store at 0-5°C and consume within two days. Spider crabs are adversely affected by freezing and so we wouldn’t encourage this as it will impact your enjoyment of the meat. If you choose to freeze, please follow your freezer manufacturers instructions.. All items are sold as approximate and pre-cooked weight, some cook loss will occur.
Weather, tides, seasonality and catch numbers can affect availability.
Two sizes are available:
900g – 1.2kg Live or Cooked – One Person Serving
1.2 – 1.5kg Live or Cooked – One Hungry Person or One to Two Light Servings

Fantastic to have a source of Spider Crab available for home delivery! I’ve regularly requested from my fishmonger for years but they only seem to get any for a couple of months around June. This is great quality and incredible value for money. A 1.5Kg cooked crab did a large (generous) meal of baked crab for 2 plus two smaller portions for the next day. I’ll be back for more soon.

The taste is a bit stronger than that of brown crabs and all that is need is (arguably) a bit of lime juice, chilli, salt and a modest amount of mayo – just mix in gently

Ordered 2 x 1.5Kg crabs thinking each one would be a hungry person meal. I was eating crab all weekend! The crab were fresh (I ordered live crab) and delicious. Tip if ordering live crab: cook them upside down and keep them upside down. When you pull the body off you have the makings of a delicious crab bisque in the shell. This with crusty bread is a meal in itself. Ordering just 1 this time and making up the £35 minimum spend with crab for family/friends.

So pleased to how found this product. Coming from Jersey, Spider Crab was always readily available. Sadly since moving to the UK I have not until now been able to source them!! Your crabs did not disappoint, perfectly cooked. no excess water, good ratio of brown and white meat, , sitting at the table picking , chatting and eating brought back lots of happy memories. I will definitely be buying more . Delivery was great, no problems and items still cold.
